What is Harpoonicorn? Is it a person, place, or thing? Or is it a feeling?

Evan and Katie, founders of Harpoonicorn, LLC, came upon it while brainstorming names for our little fishing boat. But then we thought deeper and imagined a Harpoonicorn as the trophy halibut that all halibut anglers first hope for and dream of catching: The leviathan from the depths that demands respect and requires the harpoon, the same one that might exist only as a myth, a true unicorn. But the more we considered it, the more we realized that defining it so narrowly felt like it diminished the true significance of an experience. Was Harpoonicorn just about size and rarity? No.

For those who understand the pull of the line and the vast expanse of the water, there's a whisper of something more than just the catch. We call it Harpoonicorn.

Harpoonicorn isn't just a fish of legendary size or the legend that would be told countless times about it. Perhaps Harpoonicorn is the electric thrill of the first strike of the day, the heart-stopping glimpse of a truly magnificent fish that makes you say, "Ooh, it's a big one!" Maybe the Harpoonicorn resides in the trusted boat that carries us to our adventures or the lucky whatever-it-is that's been passed down for generations. Harpoonicorn might be that feeling of pure anticipation as we push the throttle, the rising sun painting the water as we embark on a long-awaited trip. Or maybe it's that initial surge of excitement as we pull out of the driveway, the adventure stretching out before us.

Evan's dad always said, "Fishing isn't really about fishing…" Just maybe he was talking about Harpoonicorn.
